Indian badminton star PV Sindhu began her Paris Olympics journey with a powerful performance. She won her first match in the women’s singles group stage against Fathimath Abdul Razzaq from the Maldives. Sindhu, who has won two Olympic medals before, showed her skills by winning in straight games.
Quick Victory for Sindhu
Sindhu, ranked world No. 13, needed only 29 minutes to beat Fathimath Abdul Razzaq, who is ranked world No. 111. The match ended with scores of 21-9 and 21-6 in favor of Sindhu.
Strong Start in the First Game
In the first game, Sindhu quickly took control. She made a few mistakes at the beginning but then raced ahead to lead 11-4. She finished the first game in just 13 minutes.
Dominance in the Second Game
The second game was also dominated by Sindhu. She started with four quick points to lead early. Fathimath Abdul Razzaq tried to catch up by making it 3-4, but Sindhu increased her lead to 10-3. In the end, Sindhu had 14 match points and needed only one to win the game.
Upcoming Match for Sindhu
Sindhu will play her next group match against Kristin Kuuba from Estonia on Wednesday. Kuuba is ranked world No. 75.

Indian men’s doubles team, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, also started their campaign well. They won their first group stage match in straight games.

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen began his first Olympic campaign with a victory.
Women’s Doubles: Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto
However, the women’s doubles team of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto faced a tough match. They lost to South Korea’s Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong with scores of 18-21 and 10-21 in a 44-minute match.
The Indian badminton players had a mixed start to their Paris Olympics campaign. While Sindhu, Rankireddy, Shetty, and Sen had successful starts, Ponnappa and Crasto faced a challenging defeat. The focus now shifts to Sindhu’s next match on Wednesday as she aims for her third Olympic medal.
