Mumbai-based travel influencer Aanvi Kamdar, aged 27, tragically died after falling into a gorge while shooting an Instagram Reel. Kamdar, a chartered accountant known for her travel posts on Instagram under the handle @theglocaljournal, went on an outing to the famous Kumbhe waterfall in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on July 16. She was with a group of seven friends when the accident happened.
The Accident
Kamdar was shooting a video at the scenic Kumbhe waterfall when she slipped and fell into a 300-foot deep gorge. The Mangaon police station reported that her friends immediately alerted local authorities, who quickly responded to the emergency.
Rescue Operation
The rescue team, including the Coast Guard, Kolad rescue team, and Maharashtra State Electricity Board staff, rushed to the scene. A rescuer shared that upon reaching the spot, they realized Kamdar had fallen nearly 300-350 feet. Due to her injuries and heavy rain, the rescue was challenging.
“We decided to use a vertical pulley to lift her out,” a rescuer explained. Another rescuer mentioned that large stones kept falling down the gorge, making the operation even more difficult.
Six-Hour Rescue Effort
After a six-hour-long operation, Kamdar was finally pulled out of the gorge. Despite the rescuers’ best efforts, she had sustained serious injuries. They immediately rushed her to the nearby Mangaon taluka government hospital, where she unfortunately died during treatment.
Authorities’ Warning
Following this tragic incident, authorities have urged tourists to be extremely cautious when visiting waterfalls, especially during the monsoon season. The combination of slippery surfaces and heavy rain can make such locations very dangerous.
