Terror Attack in J&K’s Kathua: 4 Soldiers Killed, 6 Injured

On Monday, terrorists attacked an Indian army vehicle in the Machedi area of Billawar in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. This sudden attack resulted in the tragic loss of four soldiers and left six others injured.

Immediate Response by Soldiers

Following the attack, the soldiers on the scene retaliated, leading to an intense gunbattle in the area. Additional reinforcements were quickly dispatched to assist in the ongoing encounter. During this fierce exchange, two more army soldiers sustained injuries.

Previous Day’s Encounters in Kulgam

The attack on the army convoy came just a day after security forces successfully eliminated six terrorists in two separate encounters in Kulgam. According to officials, the bodies of two terrorists were recovered from the Modergam encounter site, while four bodies were found at the Chinnigam site on Sunday.

Statements from Officials

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) RR Swain hailed the elimination of a significant number of terrorists as a major achievement. He emphasized that these operations are crucial for strengthening the security environment in the region. Swain stated, “Undoubtedly, this is a big milestone in the efforts towards strengthening the security environment. These successes are very meaningful both substantively as well as in terms of messaging.”

He further added, “This is an indication that the security architecture and involvement of people is leading to the flow of human intelligence and this fight (against terror) will be taken to its logical conclusion.”

Impact on Hizbul-Mujahideen

Brigadier Prithviraj Chauhan, Commander of the 1 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, remarked that the recent operations in South Kashmir have dealt a significant blow to the Hizbul-Mujahideen terrorist group.

Tributes to Fallen Soldiers

The Indian Army paid heartfelt tributes to the two soldiers who lost their lives during the anti-terror operations in Kulgam. The Chinar Corps Commander, the Chief Secretary of J-K, the DGP of J-K, and other dignitaries, along with all ranks, paid homage to Lance Naik Pardeep Kumar and Sepoy Pravin Janjal Prabhakar, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on July 6, 2024. The Indian Army Chinar Corps shared this tribute on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

Increase in Terror Incidents

The Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir has seen a rise in terror incidents in recent months. Just last month, security forces gunned down three terrorists in an encounter in the Gandoh, Bhaderwah sector of the Doda district.

The recent terrorist attacks and subsequent encounters highlight the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Despite these challenges, the bravery and swift actions of the Indian Army and security forces continue to protect and secure the region from terror threats.
